A deadline convention, widely used for academic conference submissions, meaning a deadline is met as long as the stated date has not ended anywhere on the planet. It corresponds to UTC−12, the last time zone to finish each calendar day.
Example: Paper submissions are due May 15, 2027, 23:59 AoE.
The UTC−12 zone contains only the uninhabited US territories of Baker Island and Howland Island. A deadline of 23:59 AoE on May 15 equals 11:59 UTC and 7:59 a.m. EDT on May 16, giving authors in every zone the full calendar day. Organizers favor it because it removes arguments about which local time applies.
