ADS stands for Aim down sights, a gaming slang abbreviation.

Raising a weapon to look through its iron sights or scope for more accurate shooting, at the cost of slower movement and a narrower view. The opposite is "hip-firing."

Example: ADS before you shoot at that range, hip-fire won't hit anything.

Usage notes

Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare (2007) helped make ADS standard in console shooters. "ADS speed," how quickly a weapon is raised, is a key stat in loadout design. Players debate when to ADS versus hip-fire in close-range fights.
