NSVT stands for Nonsustained ventricular tachycardia, a cardiology abbreviation.

Run of three or more ventricular beats at over 100 beats per minute that ends on its own within 30 seconds without causing collapse. Common on Holter monitors and telemetry, its significance depends on whether the heart is structurally normal.

Example: Overnight telemetry: two runs of NSVT, longest 9 beats; K 3.3, repleting potassium.

Usage notes

In a structurally normal heart NSVT is usually benign, but after myocardial infarction or with cardiomyopathy it marks a higher risk of sudden death. Evaluation typically includes an echocardiogram and correction of electrolytes, especially potassium and magnesium. Sustained VT, by contrast, lasts 30 seconds or longer or requires termination.
