NOOB stands for Newbie, a gaming slang abbreviation.
Insulting term for an inexperienced or unskilled player, used to mock mistakes, as in "stop camping, noob." It can also describe oneself humorously as a beginner.
Example: Stop standing in the fire, noob, you keep wiping the raid.
Usage notes
Developed from "newbie" (or "newb"), which is usually neutral and welcoming, whereas "noob" is mostly pejorative. The leetspeak spelling "n00b" replaces the o's with zeros. Some players use it self-deprecatingly ("total noob question, but..."), which softens it. Calling strangers noobs is a common form of trash talk.
