NOA stands for Notice of appeal, a litigation abbreviation.
Short document filed in the trial court that starts an appeal by identifying the party appealing, the judgment or order appealed from and the court to which the appeal is taken. Filing it on time is essential to preserving the right to appeal.
Example: The NOA was filed 29 days after entry of judgment, just inside the deadline.
Usage notes
In federal civil cases the deadline is usually 30 days after judgment, or 60 when the United States is a party, and a criminal defendant has 14 days (Fed. R. App. P. 4). In immigration, NOA instead means a notice of action, a USCIS receipt or approval notice.
