MAcc stands for Master of Accountancy, a degree abbreviation.
Graduate accounting degree, typically one year, that many students take to reach the 150 credit hours historically required for CPA licensure in most states. Coursework covers advanced auditing, taxation, financial reporting and accounting research.
Example: Most of the firm's new audit associates completed a MAcc to reach 150 credit hours.
Usage notes
Variations include MAcy, MPAcc and MSA. Since 2023 many states have added an alternative licensure route that accepts a bachelor's degree plus two years of experience, making the fifth year optional. Firms still recruit heavily from MAcc programs because students arrive prepared for the CPA exam.
