1. Less than container load
Business & Finance · Logistics, Supply Chain & Trade Abbreviations · also used in transportation
Ocean freight service for shipments too small to fill a container, in which a consolidator combines cargo from several shippers into one container and separates it again at destination.
Example: Our pallet of samples ships LCL from Shanghai, charged by the cubic meter.
LCL is priced per "weight or measure," using whichever is greater of the cargo's cubic meters or metric tons. Extra handling at container freight stations adds time and cost, and a hold on any one shipper's cargo can delay the whole container.
2. Lateral collateral ligament
Medical · Anatomy Abbreviations
Cord-like ligament on the outer side of the knee connecting the femur to the head of the fibula and resisting forces that push the knee outward (varus stress). Isolated tears are uncommon; LCL injuries usually occur together with damage to other posterolateral corner structures.
Example: Varus laxity at 30 degrees; LCL and posterolateral corner injury suspected.
Also called the fibular collateral ligament. Because the common peroneal (fibular) nerve wraps around the fibular neck nearby, severe lateral knee injuries can cause foot drop. The elbow and ankle also have lateral collateral ligaments, so notes should specify the joint.
