l10n stands for Localization, a programming abbreviation.
Adapting internationalized software for a specific language and region, including translating text, formatting dates and currencies, swapping images and following local conventions. It follows internationalization (i18n), which makes it possible.
Example: The l10n team delivered the German and Brazilian Portuguese strings a week before launch.
Usage notes
A numeronym in which 10 replaces the ten letters between l and n; the lowercase l avoids confusion with the digit 1 or a capital I. Locales are identified by tags such as en-US and pt-BR. Translated text often runs longer than English, breaking tight layouts, so designers leave room for expansion. Platforms such as Crowdin and Lokalise coordinate translation work.
