HDR10 stands for High Dynamic Range 10, a consumer electronics abbreviation.

Open, royalty-free HDR video standard using 10-bit color, the wide Rec. 2020 color space and static metadata that describes a whole film's brightness. It is the baseline HDR format supported by virtually every HDR TV, streaming service and Ultra HD Blu-ray.

Example: The streaming service delivers HDR10 to TVs that don't support Dolby Vision.

Usage notes

The Consumer Technology Association announced HDR10 in 2015. Because its metadata is fixed for an entire program, scenes may be tone-mapped imperfectly on dimmer TVs. HDR10+, launched by Samsung and Amazon in 2017, adds royalty-free dynamic metadata adjusted scene by scene, competing with Dolby's licensed Dolby Vision format.
