FLP
Stands forFasting lipid panel
CategoriesMedical

FLP stands for Fasting lipid panel, a laboratory test abbreviation.

Lipid profile drawn after a 9- to 12-hour fast, reporting total cholesterol, HDL, triglycerides and calculated LDL (with VLDL and non-HDL on many reports). It is billed under CPT 80061 and used to screen adults and track lipid-lowering treatment.

Example: FLP and HbA1c ordered for next visit; nothing to eat after 8 p.m.

Usage notes

US guidelines since 2018 accept non-fasting samples for most screening, reserving fasting for very high triglycerides or initial evaluation of familial disorders, so many order sets now say simply "lipid panel". Water and usual medications are allowed during the fast.
