FG% stands for Field goal percentage, a basketball abbreviation.
Made field goals divided by attempts, the basic shooting-efficiency figure. Centers who shoot near the basket post the highest percentages; guards shooting threes post lower ones.
Example: The Nuggets shot 54 FG% in the first half and led by 17.
Usage notes
Wilt Chamberlain shot a record .727 in 1972-73. Because a three-pointer is worth more, FG% undervalues outside shooters, which is why analysts prefer eFG% and TS%. NBA leaderboards require a minimum number of makes to qualify.
