EEO stands for Equal employment opportunity, a human resources abbreviation.
Legal and policy principle that hiring, pay, promotion, discipline and termination decisions must not be based on protected characteristics. In the US it is enforced mainly by the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission under Title VII and related laws.
Example: All interviewers must complete EEO training before joining a hiring panel.
Usage notes
The EEOC opened in 1965 and accepts discrimination charges, which generally must be filed within 180 days of the act, or 300 days where a state agency also enforces a similar law.
