DSLR stands for Digital single-lens reflex, a consumer electronics abbreviation.
Digital camera that uses a mirror and prism to show the exact view through the interchangeable lens in an optical viewfinder, flipping the mirror up to expose the sensor when a photo is taken.
Example: She shoots weddings with a full-frame DSLR and two fast prime lenses.
Usage notes
Kodak's DCS 100 of 1991, built on a Nikon film body, was among the first digital SLRs, and Canon's EOS 300D (2003) was the first under 1,000 dollars. Mirrorless cameras, which drop the mirror for an electronic viewfinder, have since overtaken DSLRs; Canon and Nikon shifted new development to mirrorless systems after 2018. Many people use "DSLR" loosely for any large camera.
