DVB stands for Digital Video Broadcasting, a consumer electronics abbreviation.
International family of standards for digital television, including DVB-T and DVB-T2 for terrestrial antennas, DVB-S2 for satellite and DVB-C for cable. They are used across Europe, Africa, Australia and much of Asia.
Example: The TV's DVB-T2 tuner receives Freeview HD channels without a separate box.
Usage notes
The DVB Project, an industry consortium, started in 1993 in Europe. DVB-T2, introduced around 2009, roughly doubled capacity over DVB-T, enabling HD and later 4K services. Satellite operators such as Sky rely on DVB-S2. Unlike ATSC, DVB systems use OFDM modulation for terrestrial broadcasts, which copes well with reflections in cities.
