1. Cardiac magnetic resonance

MRI of the heart that gives precise measurements of chamber volumes and ejection fraction and characterizes tissue using late gadolinium enhancement and mapping techniques. It identifies scar, inflammation, infiltration and iron overload, distinguishing myocarditis, amyloidosis, sarcoidosis and prior infarction.
Example: CMR shows mid-wall late gadolinium enhancement in the septum, raising concern for cardiac sarcoidosis.
Also written cardiac MRI. It is the reference standard for measuring ventricular volumes and for assessing the right ventricle. Many pacemakers and ICDs are now MRI-conditional, though scanning requires a device protocol. Scans usually take 45 to 60 minutes with repeated breath-holds.
2. Community Mail Room

Designation in Army overseas addresses for a community or unit mailroom, written as CMR 450 Box 1234 followed by APO AE and the ZIP code. It identifies the specific mailroom where a soldier or family member collects mail.
Example: Change of address: CMR 402 Box 9876, APO AE 09180.
Mail to CMR addresses should not include the host-country city, such as Stuttgart or Vicenza. In medicine CMR also means cardiac magnetic resonance imaging.
3. Conventional magnetic recording

Hard drive recording method in which data tracks sit side by side without overlapping, allowing any track to be rewritten independently. It gives consistent write performance, making it the preferred choice for NAS and RAID use.
Example: The WD Red Plus and Seagate IronWolf lines use CMR, so they handle RAID rebuilds well.
The term became common in 2020 to distinguish ordinary drives from shingled (SMR) ones. Modern CMR drives use perpendicular magnetic recording (PMR), standing magnetic bits upright, which is why CMR and PMR are often used interchangeably. Manufacturers now list the recording technology on spec sheets after the SMR controversy.
4. Convention on the Contract for the International Carriage of Goods by Road

1956 international convention governing cross-border road freight in Europe and neighboring regions, and the standard consignment note (CMR note) used under it, which records the goods, parties and carrier's receipt.
Example: The driver can't leave the warehouse without a signed CMR.
The convention limits a carrier's liability for loss or damage to 8.33 Special Drawing Rights per kilogram unless a higher value is declared. The abbreviation comes from the French title, Convention relative au contrat de transport international de marchandises par route.
