AID stands for Automated insulin delivery, an endocrinology & diabetes abbreviation.
System that links a continuous glucose monitor and an insulin pump through an algorithm that adjusts insulin delivery automatically every few minutes. Users still announce meals in most "hybrid closed-loop" systems, but overnight and between-meal control improves markedly.
Example: Started AID system in March; TIR rose to 78 percent with fewer overnight lows.
Usage notes
Often called an artificial pancreas or closed-loop system. The first hybrid closed-loop system received FDA approval in 2016. Do-it-yourself open-source systems preceded and influenced commercial products. In other medical contexts AID can mean autoimmune disease or aid in dying, so check the setting.
