a11y stands for Accessibility, an Internet & web abbreviation.
A numeronym in which the number 11 replaces the eleven letters between the "a" and "y" of "accessibility". Developers and designers use it in hashtags, chat channels, package names and issue labels about making software usable for people with disabilities.
Example: Tag the bug with a11y; the modal traps keyboard focus and screen readers can't escape it.
Usage notes
Follows the same pattern as i18n (internationalization) and l10n (localization). Usually pronounced "A-eleven-Y", and sometimes read as "ally", a pun advocates embrace. Always written lowercase. Popular resources include the open-source axe testing engine and the A11Y Project website.
