CategoriesTechnology & Computing

ZTNA stands for Zero trust network access, a cybersecurity abbreviation.

An approach to remote access that grants users access only to specific applications after verifying identity, device health and context for each session, instead of placing them on the whole network as a traditional VPN does.

Example: Contractors reach only the ticketing system through ZTNA and never see the rest of the network.

Usage notes

Builds on the zero-trust model articulated by Forrester analyst John Kindervag in 2010 and Google's BeyondCorp work published from 2014. Applications stay hidden from the internet, shrinking the attack surface. NIST SP 800-207 (2020) defines zero trust architecture, and ZTNA is a core component of SASE platforms.
