VGA stands for Video Graphics Array, a computer hardware abbreviation.
Analog video connector and display standard introduced by IBM in 1987, using a blue 15-pin D-sub (DE-15) plug with screw thumbscrews. It long linked PCs to monitors and projectors and still appears on older equipment.
Example: The conference room projector only has a VGA input, so bring an HDMI-to-VGA adapter.
Usage notes
The original standard defined 640 by 480 pixels in 16 colors, a resolution still called "VGA"; later analog connections carried much higher resolutions with some loss of sharpness. In 2010 Intel, AMD and several PC makers announced plans to phase out VGA and DVI in favor of HDMI and DisplayPort. Adapters from digital outputs need an active converter chip.
