vaso stands for Vasopressin, a drug abbreviation.
Clinical shorthand for vasopressin, the antidiuretic hormone given as a fixed-dose IV infusion, usually 0.03 units per minute, as a second vasopressor in septic shock. It raises blood pressure through V1 receptors independent of adrenergic receptors.
Example: Added vaso 0.03 units/min; norepinephrine weaned from 25 to 15 mcg/min.
Usage notes
Vasopressin is not titrated in most sepsis protocols but run at a fixed dose. The VASST trial (2008) found it safe as an add-on but not superior overall. Desmopressin (DDAVP) is a synthetic analog with mainly antidiuretic V2 effects, used for diabetes insipidus rather than shock.
