3TC stands for Lamivudine, a drug abbreviation.
Nucleoside reverse transcriptase inhibitor used in many HIV regimens, including the two-drug combination dolutegravir/lamivudine (Dovato), and at lower doses for hepatitis B.
Example: Simplified to DTG/3TC (Dovato) one tablet daily; viral load undetectable.
Usage notes
The name 3TC comes from its chemical description as a 3'-thiacytidine. It is well tolerated and inexpensive, making it a backbone of WHO-recommended regimens worldwide. A single mutation (M184V) causes high-level resistance, which paradoxically makes HIV less fit.
