UTL stands for Unable to locate, a police abbreviation.
Disposition used when officers cannot find the person, vehicle or problem reported to them after searching the area. UTL closes a call without contact.
Example: Searched the park and both parking lots for the reported man with a knife, UTL.
Usage notes
Similar to GOA, but UTL suggests officers could not confirm the subject was ever there. Dispatch records the disposition in computer-aided dispatch logs, which can be requested under public-records laws. Some agencies use "NFD" (nothing found) or other local codes instead.
