ASBO stands for Anti-social behaviour order, a police abbreviation.

Civil order once used in England and Wales to restrict a person's behavior, such as banning them from areas or associating with certain people, after antisocial conduct. Breaching an ASBO was a criminal offense.

Example: The council obtained an ASBO banning him from the shopping center for two years.

Usage notes

Introduced by the Crime and Disorder Act 1998 and replaced in 2014 by civil injunctions and criminal behaviour orders. Critics said ASBOs were handed out too freely and became a badge of honor for some young people. The word entered everyday British slang.
