CategoriesBusiness & Finance

ULP stands for Unfair labor practice, a human resources abbreviation.

Action by an employer or a union that violates the National Labor Relations Act, such as threatening employees for union activity, firing organizers, refusing to bargain in good faith or coercing workers. Charges are filed with the National Labor Relations Board.

Example: The union filed a ULP charge after two organizers were fired the week before the vote.

Usage notes

Employer violations fall under section 8(a) of the Act and union violations under section 8(b). Charges generally must be filed within six months of the conduct. A "ULP strike" protesting unlawful conduct gives strikers stronger reinstatement rights than an economic strike.
