UFS stands for Universal Flash Storage, a computer hardware abbreviation.
JEDEC storage standard for smartphones and tablets that uses a high-speed serial interface able to read and write at the same time. UFS 4.0 reaches sequential reads around 4,000 MB/s, close to a desktop NVMe SSD.
Example: Flagship phones use UFS 4.0 storage, which makes app launches and photo bursts faster.
Usage notes
JEDEC published UFS 1.0 in 2011, and Samsung's Galaxy S6 (2015) was among the first popular phones to use it. Unlike eMMC, which can only read or write at one moment, UFS handles both simultaneously with command queuing. A removable UFS card format was defined in 2016 but saw little adoption.
