TSB stands for Technical service bulletin, an automotive abbreviation.
Notice issued by a vehicle manufacturer to its dealers describing a known problem and the recommended repair, such as a software update for rough shifting. TSBs are not recalls, so repairs may not be free outside warranty.
Example: The dealer found a TSB for the rattle and fixed it under warranty in an hour.
Usage notes
NHTSA publishes TSBs and other manufacturer communications on its website, searchable by VIN. Asking a mechanic to check for TSBs can shortcut diagnosis. Some TSBs become the basis for extended warranties or recalls if problems prove widespread.
