Model predicting that people's intentions, and so their behavior, depend on their attitude toward the behavior, perceived social norms and perceived behavioral control, meaning how easy they think it is. The TPB is widely used to design health and environmental campaigns.
Example: The TPB survey found perceived control, not attitude, best predicted whether students planned to exercise.
Icek Ajzen proposed the theory in 1985, extending the theory of reasoned action he developed with Martin Fishbein in the 1970s. Meta-analyses show it predicts intentions well but behavior less strongly, the so-called intention-behavior gap.
