TOLAC stands for Trial of labor after cesarean, an obstetrics & gynecology abbreviation.
Planned attempt at vaginal birth by someone with a previous cesarean delivery. ACOG supports offering it to most women with one or two prior low transverse incisions, in facilities able to perform an emergency cesarean.
Example: Counseled re TOLAC vs repeat cesarean; VBAC calculator 72 percent; patient chooses TOLAC.
Usage notes
A successful TOLAC results in a VBAC. A prior classical (vertical) uterine incision or previous uterine rupture is a contraindication. Labor induction is possible but carries a somewhat higher rupture risk, especially with prostaglandins. Pronounced "TOE-lack".
