TMEP stands for Trademark Manual of Examining Procedure, an intellectual property abbreviation.
USPTO publication guiding trademark examining attorneys and applicants on the practices for registering trademarks, including descriptiveness refusals, likelihood of confusion and specimen requirements. It is the trademark counterpart of the MPEP.
Example: Per TMEP § 1207, the examiner weighed the similarity of the marks and the relatedness of the goods.
Usage notes
Updated roughly once or twice a year. Like the MPEP, it lacks the force of law but explains how the USPTO applies the Lanham Act and its rules. The TTAB has its own manual for contested proceedings, the TBMP.
