UKIPO stands for United Kingdom Intellectual Property Office, an intellectual property abbreviation.
UK government body responsible for granting patents, registering trade marks and designs, and developing copyright policy. Its statutory name is the Patent Office, but it has operated as the Intellectual Property Office since 2007.
Example: After Brexit, the brand owner had to file a separate UK trade mark at the UKIPO.
Usage notes
Based in Newport, Wales. When the UK left the EU, the office automatically created comparable UK rights for existing EU trade marks and designs on January 1, 2021. UK patent protection can also be obtained through the EPO, because the European Patent Convention is not an EU treaty.
