1. Transcranial Doppler
Medical · Neurology Abbreviations
Bedside ultrasound technique that measures blood flow velocity in the major arteries at the base of the brain through thin areas of the skull. It detects vasospasm after subarachnoid hemorrhage, screens children with sickle cell disease for stroke risk and identifies microemboli and shunts.
Example: TCD day 6 post-SAH: right MCA mean velocity 210 cm/s, consistent with severe vasospasm.
The STOP trial (1998) showed that children with sickle cell anemia and high TCD velocities had about 90 percent fewer strokes when given regular blood transfusions, making annual TCD screening standard from ages 2 to 16. TCD with agitated saline can detect right-to-left shunts such as a patent foramen ovale. It is portable, inexpensive and radiation-free.
2. Trinity College Dublin

Ireland's oldest university, founded in 1592 by Queen Elizabeth I, located in the center of Dublin. Its Old Library houses the Book of Kells, a ninth-century illuminated Gospel manuscript seen by about a million visitors a year.
Example: She spent her junior year abroad at TCD studying Irish literature.
The legal name is the University of Dublin, Trinity College. Notable alumni include Jonathan Swift, Oscar Wilde, Samuel Beckett and Mary Robinson. Catholics were long discouraged by their church from attending, a restriction lifted only in 1970.
