Sux stands for Succinylcholine, an anesthesia abbreviation.
Anesthesia shorthand for succinylcholine, the only depolarizing neuromuscular blocker in clinical use, valued for rapid onset (about 60 seconds) and short duration (roughly 5 to 10 minutes) during rapid sequence intubation. It is given intravenously at about 1 to 1.5 mg/kg.
Example: RSI: etomidate and sux; intubated within 60 seconds.
Usage notes
Contraindications include a personal or family history of malignant hyperthermia and conditions that cause dangerous potassium release, such as burns or crush injuries after the first day or two, prolonged immobilization and some neuromuscular diseases. People with butyrylcholinesterase (pseudocholinesterase) deficiency can stay paralyzed for hours. Also abbreviated SCh or "succs".
