SSCI stands for Senate Select Committee on Intelligence, a political abbreviation.

Senate committee that oversees the US Intelligence Community, authorizes intelligence budgets and reviews nominees such as the Director of National Intelligence and the CIA director. It meets largely behind closed doors because of the classified material involved.

Example: The SSCI released its bipartisan report on foreign interference in the election.

Usage notes

Created in 1976 after the Church Committee investigated abuses by the CIA, FBI and NSA. Its 2014 report on the CIA's detention and interrogation program drew wide attention. Its House counterpart is HPSCI, and membership on both committees is set by party leaders.
