Sqd stands for Squad, a military unit and organization abbreviation.
Small infantry unit led by a staff sergeant in the Army or a sergeant in the Marine Corps. An Army infantry squad has nine soldiers in two fire teams, while a Marine rifle squad is larger, with three fire teams.
Example: 1st Sqd will lead the movement, followed by the weapons squad.
Usage notes
Squads combine to form platoons. The fire team, of about four soldiers, is the smallest maneuver element below the squad. In Army abbreviations SQD is also used, and documents name squads by number within a platoon, such as "2nd Sqd, 3rd Plt."
