SPOTREP stands for Spot report, a military term abbreviation.
Immediate report of enemy activity, contact or significant events sent by observers or patrols, usually formatted with the SALUTE mnemonic. It is meant to be sent within minutes of an observation.
Example: The OP sent a SPOTREP: six enemy dismounts moving south along the wadi.
Usage notes
Speed matters more than polish in a SPOTREP; follow-up reports add detail. Pronounced "SPOT-rep." Units drill sending spot reports by radio until it becomes automatic. The receiving headquarters relays significant reports to higher echelons.
