SIT stands for State income tax, a tax abbreviation.
Pay stub abbreviation for state income tax withheld from wages under each state's own withholding certificate and tables. Nine states levy no broad tax on wage income, so stubs there show no SIT line.
Example: After moving to Texas, the SIT deduction disappeared from my paycheck.
Usage notes
The states without a tax on wages are Alaska, Florida, Nevada, New Hampshire, South Dakota, Tennessee, Texas, Washington and Wyoming. Remote workers may owe tax to more than one state, and some cities and counties add a local income tax shown on its own line.
