1. Sergeant First Class

Senior NCO rank at pay grade E-7, three chevrons above two rockers. The classic SFC job is platoon sergeant, the senior enlisted adviser to a lieutenant platoon leader, though many also work as operations NCOs, senior instructors or senior drill sergeants.
Example: SFC Daniels, the platoon sergeant, wants all sensitive items accounted for before chow.
From SFC upward, promotions are decided by centralized Department of the Army selection boards rather than unit promotion points, and the Senior Leader Course is the required school. Sergeants first class are addressed as "Sergeant." The equivalent E-7 grades are chief petty officer in the Navy, master sergeant in the Air Force and gunnery sergeant in the Marine Corps.

Windows utility that scans protected operating-system files and replaces corrupted or missing ones from a cached copy. It is run from an elevated Command Prompt with the command sfc /scannow.
Example: Run SFC, reboot, and see whether the Start menu problem goes away.
SFC logs its results to CBS.log in the Windows folder. If it reports files it cannot repair, technicians usually run DISM to fix the component store and then run SFC again. An early form of the tool shipped with Windows 98, and it was integrated with Windows Resource Protection in Vista.
