CategoriesMedical

RECIST stands for Response Evaluation Criteria in Solid Tumors, a hematology and oncology abbreviation.

Standardized rules for measuring how solid tumors respond to treatment on CT or MRI, used in nearly all cancer clinical trials. Up to five target lesions are measured at baseline and on follow-up scans to classify response as complete, partial, stable or progressive.

Example: Per RECIST 1.1, the sum of diameters decreased from 92 mm to 58 mm, a 37% reduction.

Usage notes

First published in 2000 and revised as version 1.1 in 2009, which reduced the number of target lesions and added rules for lymph nodes. Lesions must be at least 10 mm (15 mm short axis for lymph nodes) to be measurable. Adaptations include iRECIST for immunotherapy and mRECIST for liver cancer. Pronounced "REE-sist."
