RDBMS stands for Relational database management system, a data & database abbreviation.
A database system that stores data in tables linked by keys and queried with SQL, enforcing data types, constraints and transactions. Oracle, PostgreSQL, MySQL, Microsoft SQL Server and SQLite are the most widely used.
Example: Billing stays in an RDBMS because every payment must be recorded in an ACID transaction.
Usage notes
Based on Edgar F. Codd's relational model, published at IBM in 1970. IBM's System R prototype and Oracle's first commercial release in 1979 launched the market. Codd later published twelve rules defining a truly relational system, which few products meet completely. SQLite is the most widely deployed, embedded in phones and browsers.
