PSAT 10 stands for Preliminary SAT for tenth graders, a standardized test abbreviation.
Version of the PSAT/NMSQT given to sophomores, usually in the spring during the school day, with the same content, 320 to 1520 scale and digital adaptive format. It gives tenth graders practice and predicted SAT performance but does not qualify them for National Merit recognition.
Example: Our district gives every sophomore the PSAT 10 in March at no cost to families.
Usage notes
Schools often use PSAT 10 results to identify students who may succeed in AP courses. Linking scores to a College Board account unlocks free personalized SAT practice through Khan Academy. Juniors who want National Merit consideration must take the fall PSAT/NMSQT instead.
