PGCert stands for Postgraduate Certificate, a degree abbreviation.
Short UK postgraduate qualification worth 60 credits, one third of a taught master's degree, often taken part time by working professionals. University lecturers commonly complete a PGCert in Academic Practice or Higher Education to gain Advance HE fellowship.
Example: New lecturers must complete the PGCert in Academic Practice within their probation period.
Usage notes
Also written PG Cert. Credits from a PGCert can often be stacked toward a PGDip and then a full master's degree. It is distinct from the PGCE, which trains schoolteachers. American universities offer comparable graduate certificates, usually 12 to 18 credits.
