PCC stands for Prothrombin complex concentrate, a drug abbreviation.
Plasma-derived concentrate of clotting factors II, IX and X (three-factor) or II, VII, IX and X (four-factor), used to rapidly reverse warfarin and, off-label, other anticoagulants in life-threatening bleeding.
Example: INR 4.2 with intracranial bleed: 4F-PCC 50 units/kg IV plus vitamin K 10 mg IV.
Usage notes
Kcentra, the four-factor PCC, was approved in the US in 2013 and reverses warfarin within minutes, much faster than fresh frozen plasma and with far less volume. Vitamin K is given at the same time because PCC effects wear off before warfarin does. PCC carries a boxed warning for arterial and venous clots.
