P25 stands for Project 25, an emergency services abbreviation.
Suite of digital radio standards for public safety communications in North America, designed so radios from different manufacturers and agencies can work together. P25 systems support encryption and trunking.
Example: Our P25 radios can talk to the state police and neighboring counties on shared talkgroups.
Usage notes
Developed by APCO, state telecommunications officials and federal agencies starting in 1989. Many agencies encrypt P25 channels, which has reduced public access through scanners. P25 is widely used by federal, state and local agencies.
