OR-3 stands for NATO other ranks grade 3, a military pay grade abbreviation.
Matches US pay grade E-3 on the NATO comparison scale, covering Army privates first class, Navy seamen, Air Force airmen first class and Marine lance corporals. In the British Army, a lance corporal is placed at OR-3.
Example: The multinational battalion's roster sorted all OR-3 soldiers into the same duty rotation.
Usage notes
Lance corporal sits at OR-3 in both the US Marine Corps and the British Army, but in Britain it is the first NCO appointment, while a Marine LCpl is not an NCO. Such differences are why NATO notes that its codes compare seniority only.
