OET stands for Occupational English Test, a standardized test abbreviation.
English test for health professionals, such as doctors, nurses and pharmacists, built on realistic clinical tasks like writing a referral letter and role-playing a patient consultation. Regulators in the UK, Ireland, Australia and New Zealand accept it, and ECFMG accepts it from international medical graduates seeking US residency.
Example: The UK Nursing and Midwifery Council accepts OET grade B in place of IELTS 7.0.
Usage notes
OET is owned by Cambridge Boxhill Language Assessment, a venture of Cambridge University Press & Assessment and Box Hill Institute. Each skill is scored from 0 to 500 with letter grades from A to E. Because the content is profession-specific, many nurses find it more relevant than general academic English tests.
