NEET stands for National Eligibility cum Entrance Test, a standardized test abbreviation.
Single nationwide entrance exam for undergraduate medical (MBBS), dental (BDS) and AYUSH courses in India, conducted by the National Testing Agency. With more than two million registrants, NEET-UG is one of the largest exams in the world; it is a pen-and-paper test of physics, chemistry and biology scored out of 720.
Example: She scored 680 out of 720 in NEET and secured a seat at a government medical college.
Usage notes
Separate NEET-PG and NEET-SS exams, run by the National Board of Examinations, control postgraduate and super-specialty admissions. The 2024 NEET-UG was hit by paper-leak allegations that reached India's Supreme Court. In British usage NEET means a young person "not in education, employment or training".
