OBP stands for On-base percentage, a baseball abbreviation.
How often a batter reaches base: hits plus walks plus hit-by-pitches, divided by at-bats plus walks, hit-by-pitches and sacrifice flies. A .360 OBP is very good, and .400 is elite.
Example: Leading off, he posted a .405 OBP and scored 118 runs.
Usage notes
Michael Lewis's book Moneyball (2003) described how the Oakland Athletics exploited the market's undervaluing of OBP. Barry Bonds set the single-season record of .609 in 2004, and Ted Williams holds the career record of .482. OBP does not count reaching on an error or a fielder's choice.
