CategoriesSports

OAA stands for Outs above average, a baseball abbreviation.

Statcast fielding metric measuring how many more outs a fielder made than an average fielder would have, based on the catch probability of each ball. It covers outfielders and, since 2020, infielders.

Example: Statcast credited the shortstop with plus-18 OAA, tops in the majors.

Usage notes

Introduced by MLB's Statcast team using player-tracking data on positioning, distance and time to the ball. Like DRS, it is a counting stat that can be converted into runs prevented. It is now part of the Gold Glove selection formula.
