1. Morphine milligram equivalents
Medical · Drug Abbreviations
Standardized measure that converts doses of different opioids into the equivalent amount of oral morphine, used to compare regimens, assess overdose risk and switch between drugs. For example, 30 mg of oral oxycodone is about 45 MME.
Example: Total daily dose is 120 MME; co-prescribe naloxone and taper discussion.
Also called MED (morphine equivalent dose) or OME (oral morphine equivalent). The CDC's 2016 opioid guideline urged caution at 50 MME per day and avoiding 90 or more; its 2022 update kept the caution but dropped hard thresholds after reports of forced tapers. Conversion factors for methadone and fentanyl are especially uncertain.
2. Madame (Mme.)
Writing & Everyday · Title and Honorific Abbreviations
French courtesy title for a woman, used in English texts when referring to French-speaking women such as politicians, artists and historical figures. It corresponds to Mrs. or Ms.
Example: In 1903 Mme. Curie shared the Nobel Prize in Physics with Pierre Curie and Henri Becquerel.
French typography writes Mme without a period because the abbreviation ends with the last letter of the word. In 2012 the French government removed Mademoiselle from official forms, making Madame the standard title for all adult women. The plural is Mmes. In English, "Madame" also titles businesses and fortune-tellers, sometimes playfully.
