MIDN stands for Midshipman, a US Navy and coast guard rank abbreviation.
Title and abbreviation for students at the US Naval Academy and in Naval ROTC who are training to become Navy or Marine Corps officers. Midshipmen are ranked by class, from Midshipman 4th Class (plebes) to Midshipman 1st Class (seniors).

Usage notes
Written MIDN with the class (MIDN 2/C). The US Merchant Marine Academy also calls its students midshipmen. In the Royal Navy, the abbreviation Mid marks officers under training at Britannia Royal Naval College, Dartmouth. The Army and Air Force equivalent for academy and ROTC students is cadet.
